Do NFC Business Cards Work on Android?

Chetan Singh10 Aug 20262 min read

Android powers most phones in India, so it matters that your card works smoothly on them. Does an NFC business card work on Android? Yes, and on the majority of Android phones the tap is quick and reliable. Here is how it works and how to handle the exceptions.

How tapping works on Android

An NFC business card on Android works by tapping the card to the back of the phone, usually near the upper middle where the NFC antenna sits. The phone reads the chip and opens your profile in the browser. The person tapping needs no app and no account, they simply see your details appear and can save them.

Making sure NFC is on

Most mid-range and premium Android phones have NFC, and it is often on by default. If a tap does not register, NFC may be switched off. It can be turned on quickly in the phone's quick settings or in Settings under connected devices. Once enabled, the tap works right away. This is a two-second check, not a hassle.

When a phone has no NFC

Some budget Android phones do not include NFC hardware at all. This is where the QR code earns its place. The person opens their camera, scans the QR printed on your card, and your profile opens exactly as it would with a tap. So even without NFC, no contact is left out.

A tip for reliable taps

Because the NFC antenna position varies across Android brands, hold the card flat against the back of the phone and move it slightly if the first spot does not catch. Around the upper half of the phone is usually the sweet spot. A moment of steady contact works better than a fast swipe.

What the Android user sees

Your profile opens as a normal web page. From there they can save your number, message you on WhatsApp, open your website or follow your socials. Nothing is installed on their phone, and they decide what to keep.

Great coverage across India

Between NFC on most Android phones and the QR fallback on the rest, your card reaches virtually everyone you meet. Given how common Android is here, that broad coverage is exactly what a working card should offer.
