Wooden NFC Business Cards: What to Know (and Our Pick)

Chetan SinghUpdated 1 Oct 20265 min read

You have probably seen one at a meeting or on someone's Instagram: a thin piece of wood with a name engraved on it, and when it touches a phone, a whole profile opens. Wooden NFC business cards have a real pull. They feel crafted, they photograph well, and they look nothing like the glossy cards everyone else hands out.

Before you go shopping for one, a plain disclosure: TapAll does not make wooden cards. Every TapAll card is PVC. We still think wooden NFC business cards deserve a fair explanation, because the appeal is genuine and so are the trade-offs.

Why wooden NFC business cards appeal

Wood says something before you do. For an architect who works with teak and oak, a yoga studio, an organic food brand or a furniture maker, a wooden card is part of the brand story, not just a way to carry a phone number.

There is also the pause: people handed a wooden card tend to turn it over and run a thumb along the grain. Every business card is trying to win that moment.

Inside, the technology is the same as any NFC card: a small passive chip with no battery, powered for a moment by the phone's own NFC field when tapped. Unlike a metal surface, wood does not block the tap.

The eco angle, honestly

This is the reason most people give for choosing wood, and it is partly right. Wood is a renewable material, and a wooden card reads as a gentler choice than plastic.

But a wooden NFC card is not just a piece of wood. It still carries a chip and a thin antenna coil, so it cannot simply go in the compost. And PVC is a plastic; we will not pretend otherwise.

The bigger difference with any NFC card, wooden or PVC, is what you stop doing. A paper card gets reprinted every time a number or address changes. An NFC card that opens an editable profile is bought once and kept.

The practical trade-offs

Wood is a natural material, and it behaves like one:

  • Water and humidity. A monsoon soaking or a damp pocket can stain or warp wood. PVC needs a wipe and carries on.
  • Bending. Sit on a wooden card in a back pocket and it can crack along the grain. PVC flexes like a bank card.
  • Printing. Most wooden cards are engraved, and even colour printing shows the grain, so brand colours and fine print rarely look as crisp as on a smooth card.
  • The QR code. An engraved QR code needs good contrast to scan well, and for phones without NFC it is the way in.
  • Consistency. Grain and shade vary from card to card. Charming for one person; uneven-looking across a whole team.

None of this makes wood a bad choice. It is a card that wants some care, better for a few chosen meetings than a busy field-sales week.

Good to know: Every TapAll card is PVC, and the chip stores only a short link to your profile. Your details live online, you edit them anytime from the dashboard, and there is no yearly fee for the profile.

Our pick: a PVC card, or the keychain

If you came here looking for wooden NFC business cards, here is what we would suggest instead.

The Premium NFC Business Card is a smart PVC card at ₹1,199, and the one TapAll product you can buy directly at tapall.in, paying by UPI. Every profile has a Save Contact button, so the person you meet saves your details into their contacts in one tap. When your details change, you edit the profile from the dashboard and the card keeps working.

If the appeal of wood was about carrying something a little different, look at the NFC Keychain at ₹699. It hangs with your keys, taps the way a card does, and is ordered over WhatsApp. More in our NFC keychain guide.

If natural materials are central to your brand, let the profile carry that: your portfolio, your sourcing story, your studio's Instagram.

Questions people ask

Does TapAll sell wooden NFC business cards?

No. All TapAll cards are PVC. Our closest picks are the Premium NFC Business Card and the NFC Keychain.

Does a wooden NFC card tap as well as a PVC one?

Generally, yes. Wood does not block the NFC signal the way metal can, so the phone reads the chip the same way. The difference is in how the card body holds up.

Are wooden NFC cards better for the environment?

Partly. The wood is renewable, but the card still holds a chip and an antenna. The bigger saving comes from never reprinting paper cards when a detail changes, which any editable NFC card gives you.

The premium card is at tapall.in/products; for the keychain, message +91 97133 49930 on WhatsApp.
