How to Update Your NFC Card Anytime (No Reprint)

Your mobile number changed. The office shifted to a new building. You finally set up an Instagram page for the business. With paper cards, any one of these means a box of cards you can't hand out anymore.

If you're wondering how to update your NFC card, here's the short answer: you don't touch the card at all. You edit your profile online, save it, and the same card shows the new details on the very next tap. No printer, no new order, no waiting for a fresh batch.

Below are the steps, a table of what you can change, and the one situation where you really do need a new card.

Why the card itself never needs changing

The NFC chip in a TapAll card stores only one thing: a short link to your profile. Your name, number, links and everything else live in that profile, not on the chip.

When someone taps your card, their phone follows the link and opens your current profile in the browser. No app is needed on either phone. Change the profile, and every future tap shows the change. The card in your wallet is the same card it was yesterday. What it opens is up to date. If you're new to how these cards work, start with what an NFC business card is.

Good to know: The chip has no battery and nothing to recharge. It's powered by the other person's phone for the moment of the tap, which is also why it only works within a few centimetres.

The link on the chip stays the same; only the page behind it changes.

How to update your NFC card, step by step

  1. 1Log in to your TapAll dashboard at tapall.in with the account you used to set up your card.
  2. 2Open your profile. This is the page people see when they tap your card.
  3. 3Edit whatever has changed. Phone number, job title, a link, your photo, your address. Change only what you need to.
  4. 4Save. The next person to tap your card sees the new version. Nothing needs to sync to the card itself.
  5. 5Tap your own card to check. Hold it to the back of your phone, make sure the profile opens, and try each link once. Then scan the printed QR code on the card, which leads to the same profile.

Step five is the one people skip, and it's the one that saves you from a client calling a number that's off by one digit. If nothing happens when you tap with an Android phone, check that NFC is switched on in Settings. On an iPhone XS or newer, the tap works without opening any app.

What you can change, and what needs a new card

People often assume some changes are too big for a simple edit. They aren't. Here's the full picture.

So the honest answer is that nothing about your details ever needs a new card. The only reason to replace it is if the card itself is gone or broken. If you'd like a different printed design after a rebrand, that's your choice, not a requirement. The tap keeps working either way.

Everyday reasons people update

A few common ones:

  • A new mobile number, or a separate number just for work
  • An office or shop that moved to a new address
  • A new Instagram handle, or a website that has finally gone live
  • A new job title, or a move to a different company
  • A seasonal offer, a fresh catalogue, or new rates for the year

You can also make temporary changes. Before a trade fair or a Diwali sale, add a booking link or the offer to your profile. Take it down when the event is over. The same card covers both, because the profile behind it is flexible.

The dashboard also shows simple tap and view counts. After an expo or a busy week of meetings, it's a quick way to see whether people actually opened your profile.

If your card is lost or damaged

This is the one case where you need a new physical card. The good news is that your details were never stored on the card, so losing it doesn't mean losing your profile. Everything is still in your dashboard.

And if someone finds the card, all they can open is your public profile, the same page you hand to clients anyway. There's more on this in our post on whether NFC business cards are safe. If a card goes missing, message us on WhatsApp at +91 97133 49930 and we'll tell you what your options are.

Questions people ask

Do I need to rewrite the chip when my details change?

No. The chip only stores a short link to your profile. You change the profile in the dashboard, and the link keeps pointing to it.

How quickly do changes show up?

On the next tap after you save. If you still see the old version on your own phone, refresh the page, since the browser may be showing a copy it saved earlier.

Will people who already have my details see the update?

Anyone who opens your profile again, by tapping or from the link, sees the latest version. If someone used the Save Contact button to put you in their phone's contacts, that saved copy is theirs and won't change on its own. A fresh tap lets them save the new details.

Does updating cost anything, or need technical skill?

No to both. Edits are free, there's no yearly fee for the profile, and if you can fill in a form and press save, you can update your card.
