How to Make an NFC Business Card (Step by Step)

Most people who ask how to make an NFC business card expect something technical: programming a chip, installing an app, maybe a cable or two. It's much simpler. You choose a card, fill in a profile, and test a tap when the card arrives.
The part that deserves your attention is the profile. It decides whether a client saves your number or forgets you by evening, so this guide spends some time on it.
Here are the steps, using a TapAll card as the example.
What you're actually making
An NFC business card is a card with a small chip inside that stores a short link to your online profile. When someone taps the card with their phone, the profile opens in their browser. Nothing gets installed on either phone. For the longer explanation, read what an NFC business card is.
The chip has no battery. It's powered by the other phone's NFC field during the tap, which is why it only works within a few centimetres. Your details don't live on the chip at all. They live in your TapAll profile, which you can edit anytime from the dashboard, so the card never needs reprinting or rewriting.
How to make an NFC business card: order to first tap
- 1Choose your card on [the products page](/products). For most professionals, this is the Premium NFC Business Card (₹1,199), a PVC NFC card and the one TapAll product you buy online at tapall.in. Every other TapAll product is ordered over WhatsApp.
- 2Pay by UPI at checkout. You can pay from the UPI app already on your phone.
- 3Set up your profile in the TapAll dashboard. You don't need to wait for the card. Log in at tapall.in, add your details, and save. The profile is free, with no yearly fee. The next section covers what to put there.
- 4Receive your card. TapAll is based in Indore and ships across India.
- 5Tap to test. Hold the card flat against the back of your phone. On an iPhone XS or newer, the profile opens without any app. On Android, if nothing happens, check that NFC is switched on in Settings. Then scan the printed QR code on the card to check that route too.
That's the whole process. Step three is where the real thinking happens.
What to put on your profile
A good profile answers three questions fast: who you are, what you do, and how to reach you. Everything else is optional. Here's a quick guide.
| What to add | Should you? | Why it helps |
|---|---|---|
| Name and photo | Yes | A face helps people place you a week later |
| Job title and company | Yes | Says in one line what you do |
| Phone number | Yes | The first thing most people look for |
| Yes, if you use it for work | Many clients prefer to message first | |
| Yes | For quotes, invoices and formal follow-ups | |
| Website or portfolio | If you have one | Shows your work without you explaining it |
| Office or shop location | If people visit you | Saves the "where exactly are you?" call |
| One or two social links | Only ones you keep active | A page untouched for a year does more harm than good |
| Payment link or catalogue | Optional | Useful for shops and freelancers who take advances |
| Every account you've ever made | No | Too many buttons bury the useful ones |
Order matters too. Put the buttons people use most, usually call and WhatsApp, at the top. A client tapping your card in a hurry shouldn't have to scroll past your Pinterest to find your number.
Keep the bio to one or two lines about what you do and for whom. "Interior designer, residential projects in Indore and Bhopal" tells someone more than a paragraph of adjectives.
Good to know: Every TapAll card also carries a printed QR code, so someone whose phone doesn't have NFC can scan it and open the same profile.
Test it properly before you hand it out
Most mistakes show up on the first tap.
- Tap with more than one phone. Try your own phone and a family member's, ideally one iPhone and one Android.
- Press every button. Check that the call button dials the right number and the WhatsApp button opens a chat with you.
- Open every link. A typo in a website address is easy to miss and embarrassing in front of a client.
- Scan the QR code. It should open the same profile as the tap.
If something's wrong, fix it in the dashboard and tap again. The card doesn't need to go anywhere.
Sharing it, and keeping it current
When you meet someone, hold the card flat against the back of their phone, or hand it over and let them tap. Once the profile opens, ask them to press Save Contact, which puts your details straight into their phone in one tap. Details saved in the moment, while you're both standing there, don't get lost.
After that, the card keeps up with you. New number, new office, new offer: log in, edit, save. We've written a separate guide on how to update your NFC card. The dashboard also shows simple tap and view counts, so after a week or two you can see whether people are actually opening your profile.
Questions people ask
Can I make an NFC business card myself with a blank tag?
Technically, yes, blank NFC tags can be written with a phone app. You'd still need a profile page to link to, a QR fallback and a card presentable enough to hand to a client, which is what a ready-made card gives you.
Do I need any technical knowledge?
No. If you can fill in a form and press save, you can set up your profile. There's no chip to program.
What if the other person's phone doesn't have NFC?
They scan the printed QR code on the card. It opens the same profile.
Can I change my details after the card is made?
Yes, anytime, from the dashboard. The card keeps pointing to your profile, so it never needs reprinting.
